IT WAS LIBERTY

Recollect their amazing fortitude, their bitter sufferings! Recollect the civil and religious principles and hopes and expectations, which constantly supported and carried them through all hardships, and patience and resignation! Let us recollect it was liberty!

Spem in Alium nunquam habui - T. Tallis (sung by the Tallis Scholars)

a motet for 40 voice parts over 8 choirs. Just wow.

This song. I just:

  • 0:30 “Oh yeah this is a good song. Renaissance, woo.”
  • 2:23 “Awww yeah, this is really good!”
  • 2:54  “Holy shit”
  • 4:00 *no longer has a sense of what normal music sounds like*
  • 9:18 This is basically what I think of when people talk about angels singing
  • 9:45 “NO PLEASE CHORD NEVER END”

If I could sing this with a group I would cry tears of joy.  I mean, if I could hear this sung live I would cry tears of joy.

Reblogging myself because apparently my church’s choir director conducted this at his recital tonight and I MISSED IT for NO GOOD REASON (okay I have a cold and it’s freezing out).  This was performed live like three blocks away from me and I was napping. I hate myself a lot right now.
